AUSTRALIAN CHINESE BAND
The Australian Chinese Band was formed by Kim Choong Tai in 2018. It consist of a Chinese Bamboo lute player, pipa player and a lute player.
Kim Choong Tai was born in Ipoh of Malaysia in 1945. He used to follow his father to the Hakka Association to play Chinese music and took part in Chinese Opera when he was about 10 years old.
At the age 12 he started to play bamboo flute at the school. He joined a band at the Hakka Association, Ipoh, Malaysia.
He migrated to Australian in 1989. He joined the Australian Chinese Band. The band initially played to entertain themselves. Gradually they were invited to play at birthday parties, functions, homes for the aged, day care centres and many other community centres and libraries.
They broadened their repertoire to Australian items.
He formed the River Chinese Band, with 4 other musicians in 2012. They started to play well-known Chinese traditional and classical songs. They performed at various community centres, schools and city councils. The councils which supported them were City of Greater Dandenong, City of Monash and City of Casey.
The Australian Chinese Band is a non-profit organization which aims to promote Chinese Culture and to bring about a more harmonious communities through music.
